My 9 year-old Canon Rebel XT stopped working, and I want to get a new camera...but I am overwhelmed by the options! First question: will my old lens work with modern Canon cameras? (EF 18-55 & EF 100-300 Zoom). It would be nice ,to have a fixed lens camera, as long as it is a lens that will do everything I need (within reason). I have been looking at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 for just under a grand, and it looks good: has flexible fixed lens, does HD video (4K!), and has a super zoom lens. I want a fast camera that I can use as point-and-shoot, or be able to get creative. I want to shoot the night sky with time-laps, and all the fun stuff I'm not even aware is within the range of possibility. Bottom line: I want a good quality camera that I can grow with, that is easy to use, but flexible, and not have limitations that will make me regret the purchase within a year or two...
